FC Hunters coach Nesbert Saruchera has praised Terrence Dzvukamanja for his influence on the club’s young players, crediting the former Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United forward with helping the team improve their performances in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
Dzvukamanja joined the league newcomers on a permanent deal after leaving Scottland FC in July, where he struggled to secure regular playing time under coach Norman Mapeza.
The forward had fallen down the pecking order at Scottland, with Khama Billiat, Walter Musona and Knowledge Musona preferred in attack. The arrival of additional players during the transfer window further increased competition for places.
Among the new signings were Seth Patrick from English lower-league club Northwood FC, Cameroonian player Neville Mbanwei Tengeg and Brazilian import Anderson Cardoso de Campos.
Former Orlando Pirates Forward Helps Change FC Hunters’ Fortunes
Dzvukamanja moved quickly to join FC Hunters after his departure from the defending champions. At the time, the newly promoted side were struggling and facing the threat of relegation.
His arrival has since coincided with an improvement in the team’s fortunes, with Saruchera highlighting the experience and leadership the forward has brought to a largely youthful squad.
The coach also credited Ronald Pfumbidzai, who previously played for South African clubs SuperSport United, now known as Siwelele FC, and Chippa United, with providing leadership within the team.
Dzvukamanja’s contribution has also been reflected in his recent goalscoring form. He has scored three goals in his last four matches, including one in FC Hunters’ 3-2 victory over TelOne FC on Saturday.
That result lifted FC Hunters to 37 points from 31 league matches, leaving them 12th in the standings and in a position of safety.
Saruchera Praises Dzvukamanja’s Leadership and Humility
Speaking to FARPost, Saruchera said the forward’s experience of playing at a higher level had made him an important example for the club’s younger footballers.
“We need more players like him from top leagues like South Africa. Most of our players are Under-23s and they look up to guys like Terrence Dzvukamanja who have seen it all beyond our borders,” Saruchera said.
The coach pointed to Dzvukamanja’s time at Orlando Pirates as evidence of his ability, while also highlighting his attitude since arriving at FC Hunters.
“You don’t just play for Orlando Pirates without something special about you, and that is the case with him. His humility has helped him gel well with the youngsters and he has been inspirational in helping them realise their potential and start believing,” he added.
Saruchera said Dzvukamanja’s presence had strengthened the team’s leadership alongside Pfumbidzai and helped build confidence during a crucial period in their fight to remain in the top flight.
FC Hunters Prepare for Two Cup Semi-Finals
Beyond their league campaign, FC Hunters have two opportunities to pursue silverware this season.
The club have reached the semi-finals of the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup, where they are scheduled to face Hardrock FC. They are also preparing for a Chibuku Super Cup semi-final against FC Platinum.
Saruchera said the team hoped Dzvukamanja’s influence would continue as they compete in both tournaments.
The coach expressed his desire for FC Hunters to emerge as surprise contenders in the cup competitions, with the forward’s experience and leadership expected to remain important as the season progresses.
