Military Pensions Board (MPB) on Friday 9 October 2026 engaged representatives of military veterans’ associations to clarify issues surrounding the implementation of the newly approved pension rates.
The meeting presided over by the chairman of the Military Pensions Board (MPB), Air Vice Marshal Mikail Abdulraheem, followed controversies surrounding the payment of new rates as approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Board on 2 October 2026 announced the commencement of payment of new pension rates following the pay rise for military personnel and the consequential adjustment that followed for retirees.
The Board in a statement by Squadron Leader Aliyu Mohammed said, “The engagement provided an opportunity for the Board to explain the implementation process, address concerns raised by the representatives and promote a shared understanding of the new pension rates.”
According to the statement, the representatives of the veterans expressed their understanding of the explanations provided by the Board and appreciated the opportunity to engage directly with them.
He said the discussions also reinforced the importance of continued dialogue, mutual understanding and the use of established communication channels to address pension-related concerns.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of military pensioners and assured the representatives that it remains dedicated to transparent communication, constructive engagement and the timely resolution of issues within its mandate.
