Mr Eazi Reveals Why He Choose Music Instead Of Football Despite Chelsea FC’s Offers
According to a report by the Punch Nigeria on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Nigerian singer Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, said he chose music over football after revealing that Chelsea Football Club once approached him about a possible signing.
The singer disclosed that the English Premier League club contacted him before signing former Super Eagles midfielder John Obi Mikel.
Mr Eazi, who has continued to build an international career through music, said football was once a serious part of his life. However, he eventually decided to pursue his passion for music.
His revelation has attracted attention because Chelsea later secured the services of Mikel, who went on to establish himself as one of Nigeria’s most successful footballers.
Mikel joined Chelsea in 2006 after a transfer dispute involving Manchester United and Norwegian club Lyn Oslo.
He later enjoyed a long and successful career at Stamford Bridge, winning major trophies with the London club.
Mr Eazi’s comment has now offered fans a glimpse into the alternative career path he might have followed if he had continued with football.
The singer has since become one of Nigeria’s prominent music exports, combining Afrobeats with other global sounds and building a strong international audience.
His decision highlights the difficult choices many young talents face when they possess ability in more than one field.
For Mr Eazi, music eventually became the path that offered him the greatest opportunity to express himself and achieve global recognition.
The revelation has also sparked reactions from fans, with many imagining what might have happened if the singer had joined Chelsea instead of pursuing a career in entertainment.
