Nollywood stars gather in Lagos for Olu Jacobs’ Night of Tributes

Nollywood stars and lovers of the late veteran actor Olu Jacobs have gathered in Lagos for an emotional Night of Tributes to celebrate the life and legacy of one of Nigeria’s most respected actors.

The tribute ceremony is being held at the Glover Memorial Hall in Lagos, bringing together some of the biggest names in Nigeria’s film industry to honour Jacobs ahead of his final funeral rites.

Among those who have arrived at the ceremony are Funke Akindele, Jide Kosoko, Adebayo Salami, Saka, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Sola Sobowale, Toyosi Adesanya and Desmond Elliot, alongside several other actors and actresses.

Jacobs’ widow, veteran actress Joke Silva, was also present at the ceremony as colleagues and friends gathered to share memories of the late actor and celebrate his extraordinary contribution to the arts.

The Night of Tributes forms part of the funeral arrangements announced by Jacobs’ family following his death on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84.

The main funeral service is scheduled for October 2 at This Present House in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, with a private burial to follow.

Jacobs, whose career spanned more than five decades across theatre, television and film, was widely regarded as one of the defining figures of Nigerian acting.

His commanding voice and versatility made him a familiar face to generations of audiences.

His contribution to the industry earned him several honours, including the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, the Industry Merit Award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards and Nigeria’s national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic, MFR.

His death on September 16 brought an end to a career that had helped shape Nigerian cinema.
