The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced engagements with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the omission of some of its candidates from the commission’s final list of candidates released on Saturday.
The PDP observed that the names of Ladi Adebutu (Ogun Governorship Candidate) and Ali Pantami (Gombe Governorship Candidate) were omitted from the list published by INEC over the weekend.
The party in a press release signed by it’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed on Sunday, expressed concern over the development but assured affected candidates, members and supporters that efforts were underway to resolve the matter amicably in accordance with the law and established electoral guidelines.
The party said it was treating the omissions with the seriousness they deserved and was committed to ensuring that all legitimate concerns were addressed by the electoral commission.
“The Party wishes to assure all affected candidates, members and supporters that it is already engaging with INEC to address the issues responsible for the omissions, with a view to securing an amicable resolution in accordance with the law and established electoral guidelines,” the statement said.
The PDP urged affected candidates, members and supporters to remain calm and exercise patience while discussions with INEC continued.
It also cautioned against actions or public statements capable of undermining the ongoing engagements, assuring stakeholders that further developments would be communicated as appropriate.
The party reiterated its commitment to resolving the matter through established legal and electoral procedures.
