A convoy of cars carrying unidentified occupants has reportedly been following former Air Force of Zimbabwe Air Vice-Marshal Henry Muchena and his wife for the past three days.
Muchena was the public face of a group of retired senior military officers who opposed the passing of Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3), which extends President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s current term beyond 2028.
The retired air vice-marshal, who has represented disgruntled former military generals and other senior officials opposed to the proposed extension, on Friday released videos showing unidentified vehicles allegedly following him.
Muchena said the vehicles had also been following his wife and family as they travelled around Harare.
He said the cars had been following him and his wife from their home in Glen Lorne to various places in the capital over the past three days.
On Friday, Muchena said the vehicles followed him from his home into town, where he was due to meet his wife.
He said they then followed his wife to Marlborough before trailing them back to their home in Glen Lorne.
The alleged surveillance continued throughout the day, prompting Muchena to report the matter at Highlands Police Station.
“What happened today is that my wife went to town early. These anonymous people in a convoy of three cars then followed me to town. On some occasions they have been tailing my wife directly,” Muchena told The NewsHawks.
“When in town around Third Street and Tongogara, she called police, and they went to the cars, but the occupants did not run away; instead they just closed their (tinted) windows. They then picked my wife’s trail from town to Marlborough and then Glen Lorne.
“Right now, they are parked where there was Food Lovers (Coconut Lounge) on the corner of Emmerson Mnangagwa Road (Enterprise Road) and Glen Helen Road in Glen Lorne. That’s where they have been parking for the past three days.
“The whole day they were following us for the third day. They are using a convoy of three cars; it’s now almost like an unsolicited motorcade for us.
“For now we just suspect they are criminals, until we know clearly who they are. It has become very worrying because we are not sure who is behind this.
“I’m currently going to Highlands Police Station to report the case.”
