MP Njoroge Wainaina leaves UDA party, unveils new political party

Wainaina, who was elected on a UDA ticket in 2022, stated that the move to join the ufanisi Party was driven by the interests of Kieni residents and the broader push for Mt. Kenya to establish an independent political path ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina has announced his departure from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), unveiling Ufanisi Kenya Party as his new political vehicle during a meeting in Kieni constituency, Nyeri County on Saturday, October 17, 2026.
Wainaina, who was elected on a UDA ticket in 2022, stated that the move to join the ufanisi Party was driven by the interests of Kieni residents and the broader push for Mt. Kenya to establish an independent political path ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“Because we have occasionally been reminded that we went to a wedding with someone else’s vehicle, I have made my 504 which will carry the people of Kieni, and that is the Ufanisi Kenya Party,” Wainaina said.
According to Wainaina, the Ufanisi Kenya Party is intended to have a national reach rather than operate as a regional party. He said the party would welcome both leaders and voters from across the country.
“It is not made for Nyeri only, it is a national party and anyone can join,” he said.
Wainaina also placed himself among the emerging party leaders in Nyeri County, noting that he is the second prominent political figure from the county to lead a party after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who founded the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
“The first is Rigathi Gachagua, I am the second known party leader in Nyeri county” he said.
Wainaina becomes the latest politician from the Mt Kenya region to leave the ruling party as political alliances continue to change ahead of the 2027 General Election.
His move adds to the growing number of leaders who are seeking new political platforms as they prepare for the next election.
