Feroz Khan Concludes In-Camera Testimony As Madlanga Commission Prepares To Resume Public Hearings

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry is set to resume open public hearings on Monday following several days of closed-door, in-camera proceedings.

The move back into the public eye comes after former South African Police Service (SAPS) Major-General Feroz Khan completed his testimony before the commission. Khan’s evidence was delivered privately throughout the week, leaving the specific details, questioning, and topics of his appearance undisclosed to the public. Sources close to the proceedings confirmed that his testimony has concluded for the time being.

With Khan’s in-camera sessions wrapped up, public interest shifts back to the commission’s open proceedings, where commissioners will continue taking evidence from key witnesses on the public record.

The resumption of public hearings marks the beginning of a critical final push for the inquiry. The commission is scheduled to wrap up witness testimonies and evidence collection by mid-December, leaving a tight window to complete its investigations into policing and security matters.

Following the December conclusion of public hearings, the Madlanga Commission will transition into reviewing the gathered evidence and drafting its final report. The comprehensive document, which will detail the inquiry’s findings and key recommendations, is officially due for submission at the end of January.

While the contents of Khan’s private testimony remain confidential for now, the upcoming weeks of open hearings are expected to provide further clarity on the commission’s direction ahead of its crucial final deadline.
