Tinubu Has My Respect, I’ll Never Abuse Him — Peter Obi

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has declared that while he will continue to challenge government policies, he will never resort to personal attacks against President Bola Tinubu or any other political leader.

Speaking at the 2026 All Nigeria Editors’ Conference in Enugu, Obi emphasized that political disagreements should be rooted in policy debates and accountability, not insults.

“I cannot abuse any governor. I cannot abuse anybody in government. I’ve never abused anybody. Who has seen me calling President Tinubu’s name? Never! I will not do that. He’s the President of the country, he has all my respect,” Obi said.

He stressed that respect for office holders does not mean citizens and the media should avoid questioning their decisions. Instead, he urged Nigerians to scrutinize leaders based on their records, qualifications, and conduct.

Obi also highlighted the influence of leadership character on society’s values, noting that leaders must embody integrity and responsibility.

The former Anambra governor used the occasion to call for greater accountability in public office, particularly in light of recent controversies over state debts and governance practices.
