Kobbie Mainoo’s performance against Ipswich Town has become an all-important measuring stick with another major point from his Manchester United run.
The 21-year-old Stockport-born talent did not start Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat to Hull City after Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos were named in the starting XI.
However, Kobbie Mainoo came off the bench in the Red Devils’ clash with Hull City and his presence at the MKM Stadium was immediately clear in the midfield area.
Michael Carrick turned to the Red Devils midfielder for the start of the Ipswich Town match and Mainoo’s value for Man Utd spoke volumes on Sunday evening.

Kobbie Mainoo started alongside Youri Tielemans at Old Trafford at the weekend and the England midfielder made way in the 80th minute for Andrey Santos.
By the time that Mainoo left the pitch in Manchester United’s 5-2 win over Ipswich Town, there was no denying his importance to Michael Carrick’s midfield plans.
Statman Dave on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, shared Mainoo’s eye-catching stats from the heart of the United midfield at Old Trafford.
During United vs Ipswich on Sunday, Mainoo boasted a 90 per cent pass accuracy and had 14 defensive contributions during his time in the two-man midfield pivot.
The Three Lions international also had four successful take-ons from his five attempts and completed 10 line-breaking passes for United against Ipswich.
Mainoo’s display in the 5-2 Premier League win puts into full perspective his major influence, especially when it is compared with the 2024-25 season at the club.
United’s last two encounters against Ipswich before Sunday’s clash came during the 2024-25 Premier League season ahead of the Tractor Boys’ relegation at that time.
Mainoo was an unused substitute in Ruben Amorim’s first match in charge at Portman Road in 2024 after the United star was being eased back into action.
The Three Lions star was later absent for United’s 3-2 win over Ipswich at Old Trafford in the 2025 Premier League season due to an injury setback at that time.
Not only is Ruben Amorim’s fumbling of Mainoo well documented by now, but also the Red Devils star’s injury-hit season held his potential back in the 2024-25 season.
Amorim brought Manuel Ugarte on in the second half for Casemiro in United’s 1-1 draw against Ipswich, all the while Mainoo watched on from the bench in the match.
In comparison to now, Mainoo’s immediate presence in the starting XI was the key to making an effective partnership with Tielemans ‘click’ from the opening whistle.
