Police Raid Crime Flashpoints, Arrest 300 For Screening In FCT

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command says it has arrested about 300 persons for screening following a raid on identified crime flashpoints, shanties and uncompleted buildings across the territory.

The command said the operation was conducted on Saturday, September 19, 2026, as part of efforts to prevent crime, disrupt criminal activities and enhance security in the nation’s capital.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, the operation targeted several identified criminal hideouts across various locations in the territory.

The police said knives, a toy gun, cannabis and other illicit drugs were recovered during the raid.

The suspects are currently undergoing screening and profiling, with the command saying those found to have committed offences will be charged to court in accordance with the law.

It added that those found to have no case to answer would be released after the screening process.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Sanusi, said the command would sustain intelligence-led raids and proactive policing operations, particularly in locations identified as potential hideouts for criminals.

Sanusi also cautioned youths and other residents against the use and abuse of illicit drugs, saying substance abuse could impair judgment, fuel violent and criminal behaviour, and expose individuals and communities to security risks.

He urged people struggling with drug use to seek appropriate counselling and rehabilitation support rather than allowing substance abuse to lead them into criminal activities.

The Commissioner further directed police officers participating in such operations to conduct themselves professionally and in strict accordance with the law.

He warned officers against using raids or arrests as avenues for extortion, intimidation, harassment or unlawful demands for money, stressing that any officer found engaging in such misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary action.

The FCT Police Command urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information on suspicious activities and criminal hideouts in their communities.
