“We Regret Voting For NDC, Akufo-Addo And Bawumia Forgive Us” – Protester Sparks Debate

As October 29, 2026, Ghanaians have taken to social media to react to a video of a demonstrator who publicly expressed regret over voting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). According to a report by UTV Ghana, the protester apologised to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, promising that the same decision would not be repeated.

The remarks were made during the #AaagbewoDemo, a demonstration that seeks justice for all while protecting the dignity, rights and heritage of the Ga-Adangbe people. The protester’s statement has since become the focal point of online conversation, drawing attention well beyond the demonstration itself.

Responses from netizens have been largely lighthearted. Many users reacted with humour, while others turned their attention to the protester’s appearance and the wider state of public discourse. Some commenters also made cultural and social observations unrelated to the political message, showing how a single viral moment can spark varied conversations.

A section of social media users took issue with the way the statement was framed, arguing that individuals should speak for themselves rather than on behalf of others. This has fuelled a broader discussion about representation, personal accountability and the tendency to generalise political sentiments.

The development comes at a time when political expression in Ghana continues to thrive on digital platforms, where ordinary citizens and public figures alike weigh in on governance and leadership. Observers say moments like this reflect the passion, humour and diversity of opinion that characterise the country’s political culture.

It remains unclear how representative the protester’s views are of the wider demonstration. However, the viral nature of the video shows how quickly individual voices can shape national conversations in the digital age.
