India secured a one-two finish in the men’s javelin throw F46 event at the Asian Para Games, with Rinku winning gold and Ajeet Singh claiming silver to add to the country’s medal tally in Nagoya, Japan.
Rinku clinched the gold medal with an impressive throw of 65.11 metres, while Ajeet Singh secured silver with a distance of 65.02 metres, finishing just nine centimetres behind his compatriot.
The performances ensured a memorable one-two finish for India, highlighting the country’s strength in international para-athletics. Saktyono R. of Indonesia took the bronze medal with a throw of 55.30 metres.
In another event, Asian Championship silver medallist Kokila, a Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) athlete ranked third in the world, lost to Kyrgyzstan’s Aibike Ulanbek Kyzy by ippon in 21 seconds to settle for silver.
Ulanbek Kyzy, ranked second in the world, is the 2026 World Championship silver medallist and 2025 Asian Championship gold medallist.
Kokila had previously won bronze in the women’s J2 -48kg category at the 2022 Asian Para Games. With weight categories revised for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic cycle, she now competes in the -52kg division.
Earlier, Soumya and Radha Venkatesh added to India’s medal tally with strong performances in the women’s 1,500m T12/T13 final at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium on Monday.
Soumya, a T12 athlete competing with guide Bharath Kumar, won gold in 5:12.39, earning 621 Raza points. Radha, also a T12 athlete, secured silver in 5:30.90 with 421 Raza points, with Govind Solanki serving as her guide.
Japan’s Mana Sasaki, competing in the T13 category, took bronze. Although she clocked a faster time of 5:12.15, she accumulated 336 Raza points and finished third under the event’s points-based classification system.
Soumya, who is based in Karnataka, had won gold medals at the 2025 Asian Youth Para Games, the 2026 New Delhi Grand Prix and the 2026 Indian Open before the Asian Para Games.
Radha, also based in Karnataka, won gold at the 2023 Asian Para Games and secured a silver and a bronze medal at the 2018 edition.
The performances by India’s athletes across javelin and track events added to the country’s medal tally at the Asian Para Games in Nagoya.
