Court clears Walter Magaya’s Yadah Hotel over unregistered medicines

HARARE – Yadah Hotel, owned by Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries founder Walter Magaya, has been acquitted of possessing unregistered medicines after a court found that the state had failed to establish any link between the hotel and the medicines recovered during a police search.

The hotel was discharged at the close of the state’s case on Monday by Harare magistrate Lisa Mutendereki after successfully arguing that there was no evidence connecting it to the various medicines allegedly found in one of its rooms.

The hotel, represented in court by Donald Makuvaza, was facing two counts under the Medicines and Allied Substances Control Act involving the alleged possession of unregistered medicines and unregistered complementary medicines.

The prosecution alleged that on November 1, 2025, detectives from CID Headquarters in Harare received information that the hotel was keeping unregistered medicines and unapproved complementary medicines in one of its rooms in Waterfalls.

The detectives went to the hotel, identified themselves by producing their police identity cards and conducted a door-to-door search.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority, they found various medicines in one of the rooms, including Cotrimoxazole tablets, Fluconazole tablets and Liposomal Liquid Glutathione (Pure Drops).

Other products allegedly recovered included Liver Care Detox Complementary Natural Medicine and High Purity Methane Inflammation Opti-MSM Methylsulfonylmethane.

The detectives also reportedly found Compounded Prescription Weekly forms indicating the dispensing and administration of medicines to one Happiness Mavindire in the same room.

However, the state failed to establish that the medicines belonged to, or were being possessed by, Yadah Hotel.

In its ruling, the court found that there was no sufficient link between the hotel and the medicines recovered from the room.

The court also noted that the room had previously been occupied by other people, raising further questions over the state’s attempt to attribute possession of the medicines to the hotel.

The court further found that the state had not produced evidence from the relevant medicines regulatory authority establishing that the seized products were not registered or regulated in Zimbabwe.

With the prosecution failing to establish the essential link between Yadah Hotel and the alleged medicines, the court granted the application for discharge at the close of the state case.

The hotel was represented by Malvern Mapako of Rubaya and Chatambudza Legal Practitioners.
