Professor of Political Economy, Pat Utomi, has criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its online supporters, popularly known as “data boys,” accusing them of launching cyberattacks and threats against him.
In a post on his X handle on Sunday, Utomi said engaging with APC’s online defenders would be beneath his integrity, stressing that Nigeria’s challenges go far beyond social media propaganda.
“2027: Engaging APC data boys, insult to my integrity,” he wrote, adding that he would not waste time arguing with individuals paid to defend the Tinubu administration online.
Utomi, a long-time critic of President Bola Tinubu’s government, insisted that Nigeria requires serious intellectual engagement to address its problems, not online intimidation.
His remarks come amid rising political tension ahead of the 2027 general elections, as opposition figures and ruling party supporters intensify their campaigns both offline and online.
