DCP Secretary General Methu Muhia Alleges Cause of Milk Shortage in Kenya
Nyandarua Senator Methu Muhia has blamed the government for the reported milk shortage in Kenya, claiming that decisions involving the management of a milk-processing corporation have disrupted the dairy supply chain.
In a statement made on October 11, 2026, Muhia alleged that senior officials from the Kenya Industrial and Commercial Corporation (KICC) were instructed during a meeting on September 22 to transfer the corporation’s operations to private companies contracted to run it.
The senator claimed that David Ndii, President William Ruto’s economic adviser, convened the meeting and communicated the proposed changes to the officials.
Muhia maintained that the alleged transfer disrupted milk processing and distribution, contributing to shortages affecting consumers across the country.
He also questioned why Parliament had allegedly not been informed, arguing that the proposed changes should have undergone parliamentary scrutiny before being implemented.
Additionally, Muhia claimed that Longlife milk-processing operations were transferred from Nyahururu to Eldoret on October 24, 2026. He said the move had affected dairy farmers in Nyandarua, a major milk-producing county.
The senator described the reported actions as a violation of the applicable privatisation procedures and called for the government to reverse the decision.
He further urged Parliament to summon Ndii and the other officials involved to explain how the alleged transfer was authorised and whether the required legal procedures were followed.
Neither the government nor Ndii had publicly responded to the allegations at the time of publication.
