Jose Mourinho Explodes at LaLiga Over Vinicius Jr Ban as Real Madrid Fall Six Points Behind Barcelona

Jose Mourinho has launched a furious attack on LaLiga’s disciplinary authorities and match scheduling, accusing football officials of showing a lack of respect for Real Madrid as pressure grows on the club’s manager.

The Portuguese coach was left frustrated despite watching his team secure a victory over Roma on Wednesday night. Real Madrid remain six points behind Barcelona in the LaLiga title race, with their performances continuing to raise questions about their ability to close the gap on their rivals.

Spanish media have described Mourinho’s growing list of grievances as a “blacklist”, with the 63-year-old increasingly directing his criticism towards referees, league officials, the press and even sections of his own supporters.

His latest outburst centred on the timing of Vinicius Jr’s four-match suspension, which was announced just two hours before the Brazilian forward was due to play in Rome.

Mourinho Questions Timing of Vinicius Jr Suspension

Mourinho was particularly angered by the announcement of the punishment shortly before Real Madrid’s European fixture.

The Brazilian had been handed a four-game ban over a hair-pulling incident, with the disciplinary decision becoming public shortly before kick-off against Roma.

Vinicius endured a difficult evening, producing what was described as one of his poorest 60-minute performances of the season before Mourinho substituted him. Endrick subsequently came on and scored the decisive goal.

Speaking after the match, Mourinho questioned why the disciplinary authorities had chosen to announce the suspension so close to kick-off.

“Do you think it’s normal that two hours before a match, a player finds out he’s been given a four-match suspension?” he asked a journalist.

He acknowledged that the reporter did not need to answer, but insisted that the timing deserved scrutiny.

Mourinho argued that Vinicius was representing both Real Madrid and Spanish football in an important fixture, suggesting the announcement could have been made after the game or the following morning.

Portuguese Expression Fuels Mourinho’s Accusations

The Real Madrid manager went further by using a Portuguese expression to suggest that the timing of the announcement appeared suspicious.

He said the team had travelled by bus and was only approaching the stadium when news of the suspension emerged.

“In Portuguese there’s an expression, ‘a cat hiding with its tail sticking out’,” Mourinho said.

The remark reflected his belief that the circumstances surrounding the announcement were difficult to dismiss as coincidental.

LaLiga’s disciplinary panel typically announces punishments on Wednesday afternoons. Mourinho’s criticism therefore focused on the timing of the decision rather than establishing that the authorities had deliberately sought to disrupt Real Madrid.

No evidence was presented in his comments to establish that the suspension had been announced with the intention of affecting the team’s performance.

Real Madrid Boss Questions Fixture Scheduling

Mourinho’s frustration was not limited to the Vinicius decision. He also criticised the scheduling of Real Madrid’s domestic fixtures, particularly the short turnaround between European and league commitments.

The manager objected to the prospect of playing Valencia on a Saturday after a Wednesday-night match in Athens, arguing that the travel and recovery demands would place his side at a disadvantage.

He suggested the team could arrive back in Madrid at around 5am before preparing for a difficult away match just days later.

Mourinho also questioned why the fixture had been scheduled for the weekend immediately before an international break.

“At the very least, it shows a lack of respect,” he said.

The Portuguese coach rejected the explanation that television requirements determined the timing of matches, arguing that he had spent 25 years in football and was no longer prepared to accept what he regarded as familiar excuses.

“I’m too old to swallow this,” he said.

He added that Real Madrid supporters were capable of forming their own opinions about the situation and pledged to do what he could to make them aware of his concerns.

Mourinho Takes Aim at Spanish Media Over Fan Protests

The latest confrontation follows another dispute with the Spanish press, whom Mourinho accused last week of contributing to the hostility directed at Vinicius and Kylian Mbappe by sections of the Real Madrid support.

Both players have faced whistles from supporters at the Santiago Bernabeu this season, adding to the scrutiny surrounding the team’s performances.

Mourinho suggested that sections of the media were encouraging an atmosphere in which fans would turn against their own players.

“If there are whistles at the Bernabéu, for you it will be a great victory,” he told journalists.

He went on to claim that the media understood the effect their coverage could have on supporters, although he declined to identify the individuals or organisations he believed were responsible.

The comments underline Mourinho’s growing willingness to confront external critics as Real Madrid attempt to improve their results.

Six-Point Gap Behind Barcelona Adds to the Pressure

Despite the victory over Roma, Real Madrid’s position in the LaLiga standings remains a concern for Mourinho.

The Spanish giants are already six points behind Barcelona, leaving the manager under pressure to produce more consistent performances as the campaign develops.

Vinicius’s substitution against Roma and the timing of his suspension have provided fresh talking points, while Mourinho’s criticism of fixture scheduling has widened the dispute beyond the pitch.

The manager’s approach is familiar from earlier stages of his career, when confrontations with officials and the media frequently became part of the wider narrative surrounding his teams.

For now, his immediate challenge remains improving Real Madrid’s performances and reducing the gap to Barcelona. Whether his public criticism changes anything about the disciplinary process or fixture calendar remains unclear.

What is evident is that Mourinho is increasingly vocal about what he sees as unfair treatment of his team, even as questions continue over Real Madrid’s form and their position in the title race.
