Astroturf Exposé: Assembly to officially demand stadium handover from Wembley – Hohoe MCE

Prosper Kumi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Hohoe Municipal Assembly in the Volta region, says the Assembly will write officially to Wembley Sports Construction Company Limited to officially demand the handover of the Hohoe Sports Stadium to the Assembly.

This is to gain custody of the facility, which was built by the assembly and funded by state institutions but has been in private possession and use since its commissioning in 2024.

The MCE said, “Formerly, we have not written to Wembley yet, I’m sure with what has come out now, we have every grounding to confirm what it is that we’ve always stood for; it is for us to go ahead to do what is right.

“The stadium belongs to the state; we will take the necessary steps to that effect. We will write to Wembley to hand over the facility to us, and if anybody has any other issue and feels that the conversations we want to initiate are not comfortable enough with him or her, we can proceed to court.”

Mr. Kumi expressed concerns over the contractor’s actions after completion of its work.

“I was wondering why, if the assembly awarded the project to you, you’ve not handed over the project to the assembly, then you go ahead and allow the facility to be used by an individual or by a group of people,” he stated.

He was speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show yesterday, September 17, 2026, after the airing of Part 2 of the **‘Publicly Funded, Privately Controlled! The Multi-Million-Cedi Astroturf Exposé’ **documentary.

The Chief Executive said following the release of the first part of the investigative piece, he had been in talks with the regional minister over the subject.

“I spoke to my regional minister yesterday, and some guidance has come. We would continue the conversation and write to Wembley to hand over.”

Following a Right to Information Request by Corruption Watch, the Hohoe Municipal Assembly set up a Stadium Review Committee to gather and review information about the stadium project.

The MCE said copies of the report have been submitted to the Regional Coordinating Council and the Attorney General for advice and necessary action to be taken.
