President William Ruto addresses residents during the launch of student hostels at Tseikuru National Polytechnic in Kora, Mwingi North Constituency, Kitui County, on October 26, 2026./ PCSPresident William Ruto has directed a contractor working on the Twimiwa-Tseikuru-Usweni road to extend tarmacking to a three-kilometre stretch leading to the rural home of Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka in Tseikuru, Kitui County.
Ruto issued the directive on Monday, during the launch of the 55-kilometre road project in Mwingi North Constituency, as he continued his four-day development tour of the Ukambani region.
Addressing the contractor at the event, Ruto said the section leading to Kalonzo’s home should also be paved, adding that he did not want residents to be unfairly excluded from development.
“Na wewe contractor, huyu contractor ako hapa, nimesema sitaki hii dhuluma. Hii barabara wakati inatengenezwa wewe iko kilomita tatu ya kwenda kwa ndugu yangu Kalonzo. Pia hiyo iwekwe lami mpaka kwake nyumbani,” Ruto said.
He went on to defend the directive, saying Kalonzo was also Kenyan and that his government served all citizens, including residents of Tseikuru.
“Si Kalonzo pia ni Mkenya na mimi ni Rais wa Kenya na natumikia watu wote, na hata watu wa Tseikuru ni Wakenya,” he said.
The President’s remarks came as he launched the Sh5 billion road project, which he said would improve connectivity for farming and pastoralist communities in northern Kitui.
In a statement on the project on his social media, Ruto said the road would connect communities to markets, services and economic opportunities.
“One kilometre at a time, we are bridging the economic divide caused by historical marginalisation in the sharing of national resources,” he said, adding that the government wanted to promote inclusive economic growth across the country.
The President also launched the construction of student hostels at Tseikuru National Polytechnic in Kora, Mwingi North Constituency.
The Sh145 million project will provide accommodation for 340 students. Ruto said the government would build another hostel block to accommodate more learners at the institution, which has a population of 1,600.
He also announced plans to construct 10 additional classrooms to expand learning opportunities at the polytechnic.
Ruto further handed over a school bus to Tharaka Girls Secondary School in Tseikuru to support students’ participation in sports and other educational activities.
In Makueni County, the President commissioned Kathekani Senior Secondary School and oversaw a last-mile electricity connectivity initiative in Kathekani. He also presided over the issuance of title deeds at Machinery Market.
The projects formed part of the President’s wider development engagements in Ukambani, where infrastructure, education, electricity access and land ownership were among the issues addressed.
The directive on the road leading to Kalonzo’s home was a notable moment during the tour, given the Wiper leader’s position in the opposition and his political differences with the President.
Ruto’s remarks framed the extension as part of his government’s responsibility to serve all Kenyans, regardless of their political affiliations.
