Nigerians in the United Kingdom have set up a GoFundMe to support the family of a 36-year-old Nigerian, Mayowa Emmanuel, who died after a battle with cancer.
Emmanuel died on Saturday, August 22, 2026, leaving behind his wife, young son, parents, friends and members of the Nigerian community in the UK.
In a condolence message shared on his X handle on Thursday, the founder of the Nigerians in the UK Community, Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as Oluomo of Derby, described Emmanuel as a loving son, devoted husband and adorable father, urging Nigerians to support the family financially and emotionally.
He said Emmanuel’s death at a young age had left his family, friends, and everyone who knew him devastated.
Kuti said, “It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend and brother, Mayowa Emmanuel, aged 36, who went to be with the Lord on August 22, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
“Mayowa was a wonderful son to his parents, a loving and devoted husband, and a loving and adorable father to his son. His passing at such a young age is a heartbreaking loss to his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
“At this difficult time, I’m appealing to everyone in the Nigerian community in the UK to please come together and support the family in any way we can. If you are able to support the family financially, any contribution, no matter how small, will be deeply appreciated and will go a long way in helping them through this difficult period.
“Let’s stand together as a community and support the family during this incredibly painful time. May his soul rest in perfect peace, and may God grant the family the strength and comfort to bear this great loss.”
Meanwhile, a UK-based digital marketer, Sam Edoho, disclosed on his Facebook page that a GoFundMe fundraiser had been launched to assist the deceased’s wife, son and other family members.
Edoho urged members of the Nigerian community in the UK to contribute whatever they could and share the fundraiser with others.
“A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to receive donations, and members of the public are being encouraged to contribute whatever they can. A link to the fundraiser is available in the comments. My thoughts and prayers are with Mayowa’s family,” he added.
