A Russian drone struck an apartment building in Kyiv on Wednesday morning, injuring four people, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy said emergency crews quickly responded to the attack and extinguished the resulting fire. He did not provide further details about the extent of the damage to the residential building.
The overnight attacks also affected the Odesa region, where the international Starokozache border crossing with Moldova was hit.
According to Zelenskyy, two people were killed and three others injured in the strike. Rescue workers evacuated 16 people from the affected area, while operations at the border crossing were suspended following the attack.
Zelenskyy offered condolences to the families of those killed and said emergency services were continuing to address the consequences of the strike.
The Ukrainian president said rescue and recovery efforts were also underway in the Dnipro, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Zhytomyr and Kyiv regions following the latest Russian attacks.
The incidents add to a continuing series of Russian missile and drone strikes that Ukraine says have targeted cities and critical infrastructure across the country.
Zelenskyy criticized what he described as an insufficient international response to Russia‘s continuing attacks, arguing that the strikes are killing civilians on an almost daily basis.
He called for stronger action against Moscow and warned that Russia should not enter the winter believing it can continue its missile and drone campaign without facing consequences.
The Ukrainian president said international sanctions and assistance to Ukraine must be made more effective as Kyiv seeks to stop Russia’s aggression.
Zelenskyy added that Ukraine’s partners already know what support is required on a daily basis and thanked countries and individuals continuing to assist the country.
His remarks came as Ukrainian authorities dealt with the immediate aftermath of the latest wave of strikes, including casualties, evacuations and disruptions at a key international crossing with Moldova.
