I’m No Longer A Member Of The NPP Because The Party Is No More Attractive – George Oti Bonsu

George Oti Bonsu has reportedly announced his decision to leave the New Patriotic Party (NPP), explaining that the party has lost the attractiveness that previously motivated him to remain a member.

In a statement attributed to him, Bonsu expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s current state, suggesting that developments within the organisation have influenced his decision to withdraw his membership.

His declaration adds to discussions about internal dissatisfaction within the NPP, particularly among members who believe the party needs to address concerns about its leadership, organisation and political direction.

The NPP, one of Ghana’s major political parties, has experienced various internal debates following its defeat in the 2024 general elections. The party has since faced questions about rebuilding its structures, reconnecting with supporters and determining the strategies needed to strengthen its position ahead of future elections.

Bonsu’s reported decision raises questions about the factors that contributed to his disappointment and whether his concerns reflect broader frustrations among other party members. However, his statement alone does not establish that other members intend to leave or share his assessment of the party.

Political organisations depend on the commitment of their members, volunteers and supporters to maintain effective grassroots structures. When individuals become dissatisfied with a party’s direction, their decisions to remain, withdraw or join another political organisation can attract public attention.

For the NPP, retaining the confidence of its membership remains an important consideration as it continues discussions about its future leadership and political priorities. Addressing internal disagreements and communicating a clear direction may also form part of its efforts to rebuild confidence.

However, the specific reasons behind Bonsu’s decision, beyond his reported view that the party is no longer attractive, have not been fully established in the information available.

It is also unclear whether he intends to join another political party or remain independent in his political activities.

Further details about his announcement and any additional explanation he provides could clarify the circumstances surrounding his departure.

For now, Bonsu’s reported statement represents his personal position on the NPP and highlights the continuing debate about party loyalty, internal satisfaction and the future direction of Ghana’s political landscape.
