MK Party David Skosana Breaks Silence On His Resignation Allegations

Durban’s political corridors buzzed with fresh tension on Thursday as uMkhonto weSizwe Party member David Skosana flatly refused to walk away from either his seat or his membership, cutting through a week of swirling speculation that had gripped opposition benches across KwaZulu-Natal.

Skosana, whose portfolio sits at the heart of MK Party’s legislative agenda, has allegedly been targeted by internal factions seeking to pressure his exit following policy disagreements that sources claim date back several months. Despite mounting external noise, he neither submitted a resignation letter nor severed formal ties with the movement founded by former president Jacob Zuma.

Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela confirmed Thursday evening that Skosana remains a fully recognised member in good standing, and that no disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against the lawmaker. “His position is intact,” Ndhlela told journalists outside Durban’s Moses Mabhida offices. “Any narrative suggesting otherwise misrepresents the current reality entirely.”

The rumours gained traction following a fractious National Executive Committee gathering three weeks prior, where senior figures reportedly clashed over electoral strategy ahead of municipal by-elections scheduled for early 2026. Skosana’s name surfaced in leaked WhatsApp exchanges that circulated widely on social media platforms, fuelling fresh breakaway speculation among political commentators who have watched the MK Party navigate growing internal fault lines since its remarkable debut at the 2024 general elections.

What struck observers most was a photograph that emerged Wednesday night — Skosana standing at a packed community gathering in Wattville, Ekurhuleni, wearing full party regalia, distributing printed ward manifestos with a composed, measured look that betrayed zero intention of abandoning the movement that delivered him a parliamentary platform barely fourteen months ago.

The question KwaZulu-Natal voters are now wrestling with is whether this deliberate show of loyalty signals genuine unity — or simply delayed turbulence in a party still finding its structural footing after historic electoral gains.
