EFF and Ngizwe Mchunu supporters clash again in Inanda

Supporters of the Economic Freedom Fighters and Ngizwe Mchunu confronted each other again in Inanda, north of Durban, on Saturday as both groups prepared to hold events in the area.

A large police contingent was deployed after tensions flared near Dube Village. SABC News reported that Mchunu’s group was setting up a stage for a music and prayer event when a group of EFF supporters confronted them.

The EFF was holding its KwaZulu-Natal provincial manifesto launch in Inanda, with party leader Julius Malema scheduled to deliver the keynote address.

Rival groups dispute event arrangements

EFF spokesperson Mazwi Blose claimed Mchunu did not have a permit and accused his supporters of organising an event to obstruct the party’s rally. Those claims had not been independently established.

Mchunu denied deliberately trying to disrupt the manifesto launch. He said his event had been arranged through the local councillor and described it as a low-risk gathering focused on prayer.

The renewed confrontation followed clashes between the groups on Friday. SABC News reported that shots were fired and several people were assaulted during the earlier incident. Police had not announced arrests or an official account assigning responsibility by the time of publication.

Both sides said their Saturday events would proceed. Mchunu called for mutual respect to avoid a further escalation, while the EFF said it intended to protect access to its rally.

The police deployment remained in place around the competing gatherings. Any criminal allegations arising from the incidents remain subject to investigation and have not been tested in court.
