The Sudan Armed Forces’ (SAF) Fourth Infantry Division has announced that it has recaptured the areas of Bakori and Akleli in the Blue Nile region following military operations that it said inflicted casualties and destroyed equipment belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allied forces.
In a military communiqué, the division’s command and operations room said troops from the Al-Naba Al-Yaqin force, operating along the Geissan axis, had retaken the two areas and driven out opposing forces.
Al-Waleed Ajabna, head of the division’s command and operations room, said in an audio recording that the RSF and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) had been driven out of the two areas, which he said had been secured.
In a statement issued through its media office, the division said the operation involved both the Martyr Adrob and the Al-Naba Al-Yaqin forces. It added that military operations will continue to pursue withdrawing enemy forces and to secure the areas recaptured by the army.
On August 28, the RSF announced that it had taken control of the Bakori military base, alongside a claim that it had captured the Surkum base in coordination with its ally, the SPLM-N. The reported recapture of Bakori therefore comes approximately 55 days after the RSF announced its takeover.
Bakori is located in Geissan locality and hosts the headquarters of the Sudanese army’s 13th Infantry Brigade. Akleli also holds military significance within the area of operations in the Blue Nile region. Radio Tamazuj could not independently verify when the RSF and its allies took control of Akleli.
As of publication, the Tasis Alliance had not commented on the army’s announcement that it had recaptured the two areas. Radio Tamazuj was also unable to reach the RSF leadership for comment.
