National 7s: Crows, Impis gain promotion

Hima Impis and KIU Crows have each won a core status qualifier tournament to gain promotion to the 2027 National 7s Series.
The Crows won the first core status qualifier that was played at the Ruga Ruga Sports Complex in Gayaza, beating the Kakira Simbas in the final. Once again, the Crows went past the Simbas, this time in the semifinal, setting up a final with eventual winners, Impis.
On their way to winning the second core status qualifier and eventual qualification, Impis first had to advance from a group that had the Fort Portal Tyrants, Kakira Simbas and Buddu Bears.
After a comfortable 43-00 win against the Tyrants, the Impis were tested by the Bears, winning 26-05, but conceding for the first time.
Coming into the second qualifier, the Simbas were in second place on the log with 19 points. All they had to do was maintain that position, but they lost the semifinal, leaving them at the mercy of the Crows to beat Impis in the final.
In the other semifinal, Impis cruised to a 21-point lead before the Storm RFC could fight back. That good start was enough for Impis to see out the game and reach the final.
With the KIU Crows already qualified for the National 7s, the incentive on the line was becoming double champions, but that incentive wasn’t strong enough to deter the Impis, who won 15-05.
For topping the qualifiers, both KIU Crows and Hima Impis will compete in the 2027 National 7s Series.
