Abdul Fatawu Issahaku’s assist not enough as Ipswich Town suffer defeat at Manchester United

Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku assisted a goal for Ipswich Town on Sunday, but it was not enough to save his side from a 5-2 defeat to Manchester United in the English Premier League.After his exciting display on the opening weekend of the new league campaign, Issahaku earned another starting role in the Week 2 fixture at Old Trafford.In the seven-goal thriller, Issahaku lasted 83 minutes before making way for Kasey McAteer.On the matchday, Ipswich stunned the home crowd in the 29th minute when Leif Davis produced a superb finish from inside the penalty area.Davis volleyed the ball against the underside of the crossbar and into the net after being set up by Issahaku.Manchester United responded before half-time when a defensive mistake allowed Bruno Fernandes to win possession before calmly finishing to make it 1-1 in the 40th minute.Manchester United completed their turnaround shortly after half-time. Jacob Greaves inadvertently put the ball into his own net in the 56th minute, giving the hosts the lead.Ipswich appealed for a handball in the build-up, but VAR confirmed that there was no infringement and the goal stood.Fernandes then extended United's advantage from the penalty spot in the 61st minute, sending goalkeeper Kjell Scherpen the wrong way.The Portuguese midfielder completed his hat-trick seven minutes later when he reacted quickest after Bryan Mbeumo's shot was blocked, finding space inside the penalty area before finishing.United continued to exploit gaps in the Ipswich defence and added a fifth goal in the 82nd minute. Bruno Fernandes found Mbeumo on the edge of the area, and the forward timed his run before delicately chipping the ball over Scherpen.Ipswich managed a late consolation in stoppage time when Chuba Akpom capitalised on another defensive error and rolled the ball into an empty net.The goal came too late to alter the result, with Manchester United completing a 5-2 victory.Despite the disappointing result for Issahaku and his teammates, the Ghanaian can be proud of another top performance.
