Power generation on the national grid rebounded to 2,827.82 megawatts (MW) on Tuesday morning, a day after the grid tripped multiple times on the 330kV transmission network, data from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has shown.
NISO’s real-time generation report showed that 17 generation companies (Gencos) were feeding the grid at 7am, up from five at 9:15pm on Monday, when output stood at 404.01MW.
The latest figure is about 2,424MW higher than the Monday night level. It is still about 1,012MW below the roughly 3,840MW on the grid at 7am on Monday, before the trippings at about 12:40pm.
Generation had dropped to 476.70MW by 1pm on Monday, with most power plants recording zero output.
NISO said in a press release on Monday that the national grid had been stabilised and had returned to normal operation after the trippings. It said it worked with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to implement corrective measures and that the incident affected only a section of the grid, contrary to unverified reports in the media.
The operator had not explained, as of the time of filing, why generation stayed low on Monday night after it declared the grid stable.
