Police seek clues in Daan Viljoen murder investigation
The Namibian police have appealed to the public to help identify bedding and shopping bags found with the remains of Danelize Majiedt (27).
Her dismembered body was discovered along Daan Viljoen Road in October.
In a media release issued on Tuesday, the police say Majiedt was reported missing on 30 August. Her remains were discovered beside a culvert approximately two kilometres from a police roadblock.
“The dismembered body, lower legs, feet, neck, head, arms and hands have not been found,” the police say, adding that DNA analysis has confirmed the remains are Majiedt’s.
The police believe the location where the remains were discovered was a dumping site rather than the primary crime scene.
According to the release, Majiedt’s torso and upper legs were wrapped in linen, placed in black refuse bags and then packed into two large nylon shopping bags.
Items found with the remains include a purple double-bed duvet cover with cursive writing and butterfly designs, a white fitted single-bed sheet, an orange-and-brown floral shopping bag, a blue shopping bag with watermelon designs, and a red top bearing the words ‘Teaching is work of heart’ alongside a pencil image.
The police are also seeking information about Majiedt’s movements between 23 August, when she was last seen, and 5 October, when her remains were discovered.
The release states that Majiedt occasionally left her parents’ home at Starling Street, Khomasdal, and visited areas like Otjomuise and Katutura.
Investigators are appealing to anyone who recognises the items, saw Majiedt or witnessed suspicious activity to come forward.
“Domestic workers, accommodation providers and members of the public are equally requested to report if any of the items seem familiar or if they have witnessed mattresses or other goods being discarded during September or October 2026,” the police say.
Anyone with information can contact commissioner Nelius Becker on 081 129 9215, deputy commissioner Barry de Klerk on 081 129 0054, detective chief inspector Jacky Seraun on 081 815 1784, detective chief inspector Felix Ndikoma on 081 565 3053, or detective warrant officer Joseph Sackarias on 081 481 5655.
The police say all information will be treated confidentially and informants’ identities will be protected.
