The United States awarded CAE Inc. a contract worth up to $42.1 million to supply two full-mission simulators and logistics support for the Royal Moroccan Air Force’s F-16 Block 72 program.
The contract will establish advanced ground-based training capacity at Sidi Slimane Air Base, allowing Moroccan pilots to rehearse missions using systems designed to replicate the aircraft’s cockpit, flight behavior and visual environment.
Each training system will include an instructor and operator station, an F-16 Block 72 cockpit, visual displays, computing and power-distribution equipment, spare parts and other support equipment, according to the official contract notice.
The package also includes a Joint Helmet-Mounted Cueing System II display. The equipment reproduces the helmet-based interface used by pilots to view flight and targeting information.
Work will be performed at CAE’s facility in Arlington, Texas, and at Sidi Slimane Air Base in Morocco. Completion is scheduled for April 30, 2029.
The award combines fixed-price, reimbursable and performance-based elements. The United States committed $37.98 million in Foreign Military Sales funding when the contract was awarded.
The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s simulator division at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio is overseeing the contract.
CAE, headquartered in Canada, develops simulation and training systems for civilian aviation and defense customers. Its military portfolio includes equipment for fighter aircraft, helicopters, remotely piloted aircraft and maintenance crews.
The simulators form part of Morocco’s wider F-16 modernization program. The US State Department approved a possible $3.79 billion sale of 25 new F-16C/D Block 72 aircraft and associated equipment in 2019.
Washington separately approved a package valued at about $985 million to upgrade Morocco’s existing F-16 fleet toward the F-16V configuration.
