Kenyan Househelp Dies After Collapsing While Playing with Employer’s Son in Saudi Arabia
AI summary
A Kenyan woman working as a domestic worker in Saudi Arabia has died after collapsing while playing football with her employer’s young son inside their home.
The woman, identified only as Joy, reportedly fell to the floor during the playful game as her employer recorded the moment on a mobile phone.
According to a report by TUKO.co.ke published on Monday, November 2, the incident happened in the family’s home, where Joy and the young boy had been kicking a red ball around the living room.
The employer could reportedly be heard cheering them on as he recorded the game. However, what had started as a cheerful moment suddenly turned tragic when Joy collapsed in a corridor after several rounds of playing.
She appeared to be convulsing, leaving the young boy startled as the employer rushed towards her and repeatedly called her name.
Joy was subsequently rushed to hospital, where doctors reportedly informed her family and friends that she had suffered a heart attack.
News of her death was shared by her close friend, Ruth Kerubo, in a Facebook post that expressed sadness over the sudden loss.
In her tribute, Kerubo suggested that Joy might have received medical attention sooner had she communicated any discomfort she was experiencing instead of continuing with the game.
“If only she said she was feeling bad and didn’t insist on playing further, maybe she could have been rushed to the hospital, and she would still be alive. Rest in peace, Joy,” Kerubo wrote.
Joy had travelled to Saudi Arabia in search of better opportunities and to support her loved ones back home in Kenya.
Her death has left members of the Kenyan community in Saudi Arabia mourning, with her friend’s emotional tribute reflecting the shock surrounding the unexpected tragedy.
