Kaizer Chiefs Respond To Manqoba Mngqithi Rumours After His Young Africans Exit
Kaizer Chiefs have dismissed reports linking former Young Africans coach Manqoba Mngqithi with a move to Naturena following his departure from the Tanzanian club.
The speculation emerged after Mngqithi’s exit from Young Africans, prompting questions about whether the experienced South African coach could be considered for a position within the Amakhosi technical team.
However, Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr has firmly rejected the reports, describing the claims as false.
“Completely lies,” Motaung Jr said when responding to the rumours surrounding Mngqithi’s possible appointment.
The response puts a stop to the speculation that Chiefs are preparing to bring the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach into their technical setup, at least according to the club’s current position.
The rumours surfaced at a sensitive time for the Soweto giants, who have been under pressure following their elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup. Supporters have been closely monitoring the team’s performances and the decisions being made by the club’s leadership.
Despite the continental setback, Chiefs have reportedly maintained their backing of head coach Fernando Da Cruz, signalling that the club is not currently planning an immediate change in leadership.
Mngqithi, meanwhile, remains without a club following his departure from Young Africans. He previously established himself as one of South Africa’s experienced coaches through his work at Mamelodi Sundowns, where he was involved in several successful domestic campaigns.
Interestingly, Mngqithi revealed a few months ago that someone had previously blocked his move to Kaizer Chiefs. His comments added another dimension to speculation about a possible future relationship between the coach and the Soweto giants.
However, his previous remarks do not confirm that negotiations are currently taking place or that Chiefs have any intention of appointing him.
For now, the club’s public response suggests that reports linking Mngqithi to Naturena should be treated with caution.
Chiefs’ immediate focus remains on their ongoing campaign under Da Cruz as they seek to improve their performances and restore confidence among their supporters.
