Mutare pushcart operator swarmed by bees minutes after refusing elderly customer US$7 change
A pushcart operator in Sakubva, Mutare, had the scare of his life after a swarm of bees descended on his cart moments after he allegedly refused to give an elderly client her US$7 change.
The incident happened on Wednesday, 7 October, at Sakubva Market, where the operator, identified only as Happy, had been hired by the woman to transport her goods from Mwamuka Market to the bus rank.
According to witnesses cited by The Manica Post, Happy initially charged the woman US$3 for the service. However, when she paid with a US$10 note, he allegedly changed the price, claiming that the goods were too heavy and demanding US$10.
The woman reportedly pleaded with him to honour the original price and return her US$7 change, but Happy allegedly left with the money.
The woman then boarded a bus bound for Chiredzi. As the bus was leaving the rank, a swarm of bees suddenly descended on Happy’s pushcart.
The operator immediately fled, while vendors and travellers gathered to watch the unusual scene.
Police were deployed to maintain law and order at the market as the bees remained around the cart.
Despite several attempts to disturb them, the bees reportedly did not attack anyone.
