We want to appeal to our father, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, to help us look into our issue, which had been stuck at the IGP’s Welfare Office over the years.
We (six police officers) were dismissed from the police in 1994 by the then Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr Abubaker Tsav.
The reason was that in 1993, our patrol team encountered a gang of notorious armed robbers on the Ijebu-Ode-Ibadan road, around Podo area. The gang had already attacked and snatched a police patrol van, so as we approached, we didn’t know their identity. They shot at our driver, and our patrol van sommersaulted. After landing in the ditch, we responded, but the armed robbers escaped.
A panel was set up over the incident, which led to our dismissal, but we took the case to court and won in 1994. The court ordered our reinstatement, but this was never obeyed.
Out of the six of us, four have died. We are, therefore, appealing to the IGP to help us look into our case file at the IGP’s Welfare Office.
