The Bureau of Local Content (BCL) of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) has called for stronger coordination among government, the private sector, financial institutions and project operators to ensure that the resumption of major liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects translates into concrete opportunities for Mozambican businesses and workers.
BCL Monitoring and Development Coordinator Amahoro Lins made the call during the Expert Meeting “Implications, Expectations and Realities Surrounding the Resumption of LNG Projects in Mozambique”, held on 26 August at Hotel Cardoso in Maputo.
Lins highlighted the importance of improving access to reliable and up-to-date data on local content, while pointing to financing, business preparedness and stronger integration into supply chains as key factors for increasing the participation of Mozambican companies in the sector.
The BCL also presented its ambition to see 10,000 Mozambican companies integrated into supply chains and two million Mozambicans employed directly or indirectly through economic diversification supported by major investment projects.
The meeting comes as Mozambique moves towards the resumption of major LNG developments, raising renewed expectations over the potential economic impact of the projects on local businesses and communities.
