Wanga Sends Kalonzo Message Over Nyanza Votes as 2027 Politics Intensify

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has delivered a blunt message to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka telling him to forget about securing votes from the Nyanza region as political alignments ahead of the 2027 General Election continue to attract attention.

Wanga’s remarks, captured in the statement, “Kalonzo, sahau na kura za Nyanza,” have raised questions about the political calculations surrounding the opposition and the region’s potential role in the next presidential contest.

The statement appears to underline the growing importance of regional support as political leaders position themselves for the 2027 elections.

Nyanza has traditionally been a significant political battleground with its voting patterns often influenced by local leadership, party loyalty and national political alliances.

Kalonzo, who has remained a prominent figure in opposition politics, faces the challenge of building a broad support base as leaders begin considering possible presidential candidacies and coalition arrangements.

Wanga, a key figure in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has also been vocal on political matters affecting the party and its supporters.

Her latest message could add another dimension to discussions about who may command the region’s backing in the next election.

However, the brief statement does not establish whether Wanga was speaking on behalf of ODM or expressing her personal political position.

Further context would be needed to determine the full meaning of her remarks and whether they signal a wider disagreement between political camps.

With the 2027 General Election approaching the contest for regional influence is expected to remain a central issue among Kenya’s political leaders.

Wanga’s message has therefore placed Kalonzo’s potential appeal in Nyanza under the spotlight although the region’s eventual voting decisions will depend on the political developments and alliances that emerge before election day.
