South Africa comes together to wish 2026 Matrics the best for their exams
People and organisations of all kinds gather for a round o encouragement.
12 years of education all come to a head today, as the 2026 Matric exams have started. While it may be the most stressful event of these students’ lives, it does seem like they have the whole country behind them.
We’ve been monitoring Twitter (now X) for several hours today, and seen an outpouring of support from South Africa.
Looking at terms on X, such as Matric, Matrics, Good Luck, and others, reveals hundreds of posts from people sending their regards to these students.
On top of this, we’ve seen businesses, universities, media outlets, radio stations, local governments, governmental institutions and many more all with similar messages of encouragement.
We’ve made a list of the more notable organisations and their posts, all of which you can see in the list below.
Posted less than 30 minutes ago, the message from MTN has seemingly gathered the most amount of traction by offering a prize.
“To all our Matrics, you’ve got this! As you take on your final exams, remember that every late night, every note, and every revision session is bringing you closer to your goals. Share your best study tip in the comments and you could WIN a prize!,” the telecommunications company writes.
There’s no word about what the prize is, or when the winner will be crowned, but the replies are full of interesting tips from South Africans. Some are providing tips from their Matric exams, while others are adding in what allowed them to get through the several levels of higher education.
Some of these tips overlap with official recommendations and study tools made available by the government, which we have gathered into one article you can read here.
Only time will tell how the record number of Matrics will perform, with the exam timetable stretching all the way to late November.
