Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, a governorship aspirant of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Nasarawa State, has cautioned his supporters against insulting political opponents, urging them to counter attacks by showcasing his achievements and development agenda for the state.

Wadada, who represents Nasarawa West Senatorial District, gave the charge while addressing members and stakeholders of the Wadada Project in Keffi, on Sunday, where he stressed that his campaign for the 2027 governorship election should be driven by issues, records and persuasion rather than abusive exchanges.

“I don’t want you to insult anybody. Whenever they insult me, show them my scorecard. Tell them what I have done and what I have said I will do when I become governor,” he said.

The senator urged his supporters to make peace a central message of their political mobilisation and resist attempts to draw them into hostile exchanges with opponents.

According to him, the appropriate response to criticism or attacks is to present his record in the National Assembly and explain his programmes for Nasarawa if elected governor.

Wadada said no amount of blackmail or intimidation would force him or his supporters to abandon their political ambition, urging them to remain focused and disciplined.

He maintained that democratic politics should be about engaging the electorate and winning support through ideas rather than compelling people to back a particular candidate.

“Politics is not command. It is about speaking to the people and convincing them to see reasons with your ideology,” he said.

Wadada also praised Governor Abdullahi Sule’s development efforts, saying projects executed by the administration across local governments and communities had provided examples of what could be achieved through purposeful leadership.

He said Sule’s performance had provided inspiration for his proposed “Heart Agenda,” which he said would focus on critical areas of development, including education, institutional development, unity, mining and economic advancement.

“I have got inspiration and motivation by the governor of the day, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, who has changed the narrative of the political enclave called Nasarawa State. For that inspiration and motivation, I’ve got the Heart Agenda to deliver to the people of Nasarawa State,” Wadada said.

The senator also presented what he described as his interim scorecard, highlighting his legislative activities and constituency projects since his election to the Senate.

He said his record in the National Assembly should form a major plank of his supporters’ campaign for his governorship ambition.

Earlier, Chairman of the Wadada Project, Kwanta Yakubu, said the coalition of stakeholders and support groups backing the senator was motivated by conviction rather than financial inducement.

“We don’t believe in you because you have money to give. We believe in you because those credentials speak for you, and you have the capacity to bring progress to the people of Nasarawa,” Yakubu said.

He described Wadada as patient, humble and committed to the development of the state, noting that he had remained active in national politics through his service in the House of Representatives and Senate.

Yakubu said the movement was building its structure from the local government areas to wards and polling units as part of preparations for the 2027 election.

Wadada thanked members for their support and urged them to remain united, peaceful and disciplined, insisting that his governorship project must be driven by ideas, performance and conviction rather than attacks on political opponents.
