Zimbabwe Sables Edge Namibia In 36-33 Thriller At National Sports Stadium

Zimbabwe’s Sables held their nerve to secure a narrow 36-33 victory over Namibia in a pulsating international friendly at the National Sports Stadium in Harare yesterday, extending their recent winning run against their southern African rivals.

The Rugby World Cup-bound side built a 12-point advantage by half-time but had to withstand a determined Namibian fightback before sealing the three-point victory in front of a large crowd at the newly refurbished stadium.

Sables Survive Late Namibia Fightback

Zimbabwe appeared to have the upper hand after taking a 26-14 lead into the break, putting themselves in a strong position to claim victory.

However, Namibia’s Welwitschias refused to back down, taking advantage of defensive lapses by the hosts to get back into the contest and set up a tense finish.

The visitors threatened to snatch the win late in the match, but the Sables managed to hold on and secure a hard-fought result.

The encounter lived up to expectations, adding another exciting chapter to the long-running rivalry between the two neighbours.

The victory also extends Zimbabwe’s winning streak against Namibia to three consecutive matches, marking a significant turnaround after the Sables spent more than two decades playing second fiddle to their rivals.

Zimbabwe Rugby Thanks Fans For Support

Following the victory, Zimbabwe Rugby took to Facebook to express its gratitude to supporters who turned out to back the national team.

The post read:

“A massive thank you to all our fans for the incredible support! Your passion, energy and unwavering belief in the Sables mean everything to us. We are grateful to have you behind us, every step of the way.

Together, we are Zimbabwe Rugby. ”

The win provides a morale boost for the Sables as they continue their preparations for the Rugby World Cup, while the strong turnout at the National Sports Stadium added to the occasion.
