Reece Munro lands first u21 international call-up after bouncing back from injury for Man Utd academy

Manchester United defensive prospect Reece Munro has received his first ever international call-up.

Ahead of the upcoming international break, Reece Munro has been named in the Wales under-21 squad.

Munro, who was born in England and also has Grenadan heritage – but had not previously been called up by either federation.

He joins his former Manchester United colleague Gabriele Biancheri in the Wales under-21 side, following the striker’s recent exit to Austrian club Wacker Innsbruck.

Munro’s call-up is reward for a difficult 2026, where he has had to battle back to fitness after an injury.

Reece Munro’s battle back

Reece Munro has played in both of Manchester United’s under-21 games so far this season, one as a starter.

The 19-year-old centre-back played three times in January before suffering an injury that ruled him out of the rest of the 2025/26 campaign.

Now fit again, his international call-up is the perfect reward for his battle back to fitness.

Munro had trained with United’s first team during pre-season 2025, after captaining the under-18s.

Now he is playing for the under-21s under Adam Lawrence, who was previously his manager at 18s level.

He also went on the 2025 postseason tour and made a substitute appearance against ASEAN All-Stars.
