Road to BAL 2027: Hoima City Arena set to host East Division Group D Qualifiers

Continental basketball is coming to the city of Hoima.

Namuwongo Blazers have confirmed that the upcoming Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2027 East Division Group D qualifying tournament will be held right here in Uganda at the Hoima City Arena.

The four-day showpiece, scheduled to run from October 23 to October 26, 2026, will see five regional clubs battle it out in Hoima City for a coveted spot in the next round.

Through an official club release, Blazers Chief Executive Officer Daniel Muttubol Obol expressed immense pride as Uganda prepares to host the tournament.

Noting the club’s commitment to delivering a top-tier event alongside FIBA Africa, the National Council of Sports (NCS), and the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA).

“Participation in the Road to BAL presents a significant opportunity for our club, our players, and Ugandan basketball to showcase the continued growth, talent, and competitiveness of the game in Uganda,” Obol quoted in the release.

With the home crowd behind them in Hoima, the Blazers, who are making their second consecutive appearance in the prestigious continental competition, will aim to secure one of the top two spots to advance to the Elite 16 tournament in Nairobi, Kenya, set for November 24–29, 2026.
