Former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper coach Alex Heredia says kaizer Chiefs captain Brandon Petersen should be dropped.
Former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper coach Alex Heredia has called Kaizer Chiefs to drop Brandon Petersen and replace him with Bruce Bvuma.
Petersen has been Amakhosi‘s first-choice keeper for 14 months. He took over from Bvuma, who was replaced in May 2025 after making errors in goals against rivals Orlando Pirates.
While Petersen was impressive last season, he has made costly errors in recent weeks which has raised question on whether he is still the club’s number one keeper.
Heredia feels Bvuma should be given a run.
“I would drop Petersen and play Bvuma, and the reason is the inconsistency of Petersen over the years. Yes, he has fantastic games, but he also makes horrible mistakes,” he told Soccer Laduma.
“He’s not consistent; this is the biggest problem. And now when you play him, you never know how he’s going to react. He can be the Man of the Match or he can make the team lose because of silly mistakes. In my opinion, if there is an alternative goalkeeper, they have Bvuma,” Heredia added.
The former goalkeeper coach said Chiefs can’t afford to have Petersen making mistakes week in and week out.
“Unfortunately, a big team like Kaizer Chiefs cannot afford to lose games for silly mistakes. Individual mistakes, especially from a goalkeeper, cannot be tolerated. If they want to compete for the league, they must have a consistent goalkeeper, first of all,” he added.
It remains to be seen if Fernando Da Cruz will drop Petersen ahead of Chiefs’ next match against Siwelele.
