The new levy in town is called “Intention or dream Levy” – Hopeson Adorye Mocks NPP

In an Official Facebook Post by Hopeson Adorye on 30 October 2026, the outspoken politician ridiculed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) newly announced Declaration of Interest (DOI) fee for parliamentary aspirants. The post, captioned “The new levy in town is called ‘Intention or dream Levy’”, was both sarcastic and biting, dramatizing the controversy surrounding the party’s decision to charge aspirants ¢5,000 simply to declare their intention to contest primaries ahead of the 2028 elections.

Adorye’s mockery came in response to widespread criticism of the DOI mechanism, which requires prospective candidates — including sitting Members of Parliament — to formally declare their interest between November 1 and 10, 2026. His phrase “Intention or dream Levy” dramatized the broader lesson that the fee appears less like an administrative measure and more like a tax on ambition.

His tone was humorous yet critical. By framing the fee as a levy on dreams, Adorye dramatized the broader lesson that political participation is increasingly being monetized. His words suggested that the DOI fee risks discouraging grassroots aspirants, turning parliamentary ambition into a privilege for the wealthy.

This commentary reflects the theme of political accessibility and fairness. Adorye’s rebuke underscores the dangers of introducing financial hurdles that appear alien to the party’s constitution. By ridiculing the fee, he dramatized the broader lesson that democracy must remain open and affordable to all members, not just those with deep pockets.

At a deeper level, the post highlights the intersection of party democracy, financial accessibility, and constitutional legitimacy. Adorye’s frustration dramatizes how new fees and procedures can be perceived as exclusionary. His words serve as a reminder that political parties must balance administrative convenience with fairness and inclusivity.

Observers note that this reflection resonates with wider concerns about the rising cost of political participation in Ghana. Citizens increasingly demand justification for fees that appear arbitrary or excessive. Adorye’s post channels this expectation, presenting the DOI fee as a levy that undermines the spirit of open competition.

In conclusion, Hopeson Adorye’s post “The new levy in town is called ‘Intention or dream Levy’” is both satire and critique. It dramatizes the clash between ambition and affordability, reminding Ghanaians that democracy must not be taxed into exclusivity. His words stand as a call for transparency, fairness, and constitutional fidelity in the NPP’s parliamentary primaries.
