The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) vice presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, Lawal Daura, has warned that anyone planning to rig the presidential poll has “a surprise coming,” declaring that the party would insist on compliance with the law and the Electoral Act.
Speaking at the inauguration of the APM Presidential Campaign Organisation in Abuja yesterday, Daura said the party was mobilising Nigerians to win the election and reset critical sectors of the economy.
He warned against attempts to secure votes through manipulation, saying candidates should earn the support of Nigerians through their programmes and persuasion.
“A lot of those that are thinking that there is a way to get votes other than canvassing for them, telling the people how qualitative you are, your programmes, and the rest of it, maybe there are those who may think there is a shortcut.
“Well, this time around, the struggle is for real. We are not going to let them escape with it. We must make sure that everything is done in accordance with the law and the Electoral Act. And for those who really want to rig, that they can pull a fast one, well, they have a surprise coming.”
Daura said the party’s determination to win the presidential contest was driven by the need to address Nigeria’s challenges through a review of existing policies and structures.
“The resetting is the only solution so far that can get Nigeria out. And by resetting, it means every other thing that has been configured in Nigeria needs to be looked at, amended, changed, replaced, or whatever,” he said.
APM National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle, urged members of the campaign organisation to remain focused on securing victory for the party’s presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, and his running mate, Daura.
He said although the task would be difficult, it was achievable, stressing that the party’s handling of internal disagreements would demonstrate its preparedness to govern.
“We are bound to encounter challenges. We are bound to disagree with one another. But our ability to manage our internal problems is what Nigeria wants to see,” Dantalle said.
