Sundowns agree deal to sign Ecuador international – report
Mamelodi Sundowns already have their first major January signing if media reports in Ecuador are to be trusted.

Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Ecuador international Jhegson Mendez.
Mendez is currently on the books of Independiente del Valle of Ecuador whom he rejoined in 2025.
SUNDOWNS SET TO SIGN ECUADOR INTERNATIONAL MENDEZ
According to Ecuadorian publication, Orbita Deportivo, Mendez’s contract with Independiente del Valle expires in December 2026.
And with the central defensive midfielder not keen to sign a new deal, this means Sundowns will sign Mendez as a free agent.
The 29-year-old is expected to arrive in January where will be expected to undergo medicals before putting pen to paper.
Mendez is expected to sign a three-and-a-half year deal with the Brazilians as soon as he passes his medicals.
He is considered as a replacement for the late Jayden Adams who passed away in Cape Town soon after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Sundowns have not signed anyone in Adams’ position, and they’ve decided to go to South America to find a replacement.
At the moment, Sundowns will have to get their foreign quota in order ahead of the January transfer window to accommodate Mendez.
MENDEZ’S STATS AT INDEPENDIENTE DEL VALLE
Mendez has had two spells with Independiete del Velle, to date, he has featured in 156 official matches for them.
Despite being a defensive midfielder, Mendez has been able to score four goals and provided eight assists.
