Federal High Court Dismisses Suit Seeking Fresh Probe Into Mohbad’s Death

The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a lawsuit seeking an order to compel the Nigeria Police Force to reopen investigations into the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

In a judgment delivered on Thursday, Justice James Omotosho ruled that the applicant, a non-governmental organization named Registered Trustees of Break the Silence Foundation, lacked the legal standing to file the suit.

The court held that the application was speculative and devoid of merit, noting that the group failed to present the initial police investigation report to substantiate its claims that earlier probes were inadequate.

Justice Omotosho further cautioned legal practitioners against granting public media interviews or making social media posts regarding pending court matters, warning that such actions constitute professional misconduct.

The late musician died in Lagos in September 2023 at the age of 27.
