Traders at Kitale’s main market have been thrown into confusion just days after President William Ruto handed over stalls, after Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya issued an eviction notice.
According to a post by Tuko.co.ke, the 2,700 stall owners have been asked to pack and leave within 24 hours.
The notice, which the publication says is in the comments section, comes shortly after President Ruto officially commissioned and handed over the Kitalale market stalls to traders in Kitale town.
The market, one of the projects launched by the President during his recent development tour of Trans Nzoia County, was meant to provide a decent working space for small-scale traders.
Governor Natembeya is yet to publicly explain the reason for the eviction, but the move has sparked mixed reactions online, with many questioning why traders are being ejected from stalls that were just handed over by the Head of State.
By the time of publishing, neither the County Government of Trans Nzoia nor State House had issued a statement on the matter.
The eviction is expected to affect over 2,700 traders who had already occupied the stalls.
