Despite being subpoenaed, Crime Intelligence Deputy Head Major-General Feroz Khan will not testify at the Madlanga Commission on Tuesday as scheduled due to him being re-admitted to the hospital.
His testimony could be delayed as his lawyers prepare to seek a postponement following his reported hospital readmission.
Khan was subpoenaed to answer allegations of interference in the criminal justice system, after previously being unable to testify because of gunshot wounds allegedly sustained outside his Johannesburg home.
During his absence, the commission examined WhatsApp messages that exposed his political and business links, multimillion-rand property and vehicle holdings, and alleged tender fraud dealings.
The inquiry has since uncovered an apparent personal relationship between Khan and Andrea Johnson, the former head of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC).
Messages allegedly show Johnson sharing sensitive police information with Khan.
His appearance comes amid mounting scrutiny of the senior intelligence official.
Meanwhile, Khan is also due before the Kempton Park Magistrates Court on Wednesday over allegations of defeating the ends of justice in a case dating to 2021.
