Heavy rainfall and a windstorm have brought down three towers of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in Chibike Village, Arewa Local Government Area, Kebbi State.
An indigene of the area, Malam Aliyu Mohammed Chibike, disclosed this to Our Correspondent in a telephone interview on Sunday.
He said the affected towers were destroyed by a heavy downpour and a windstorm that hit the area over the weekend.
In a statement obtained by LEADERSHIP from the TCN management, the towers affected the 132KV Birnin Kebbi-Niamey line in the Republic of Niger.
According to the statement, the Birnin Kebbi-Niamey Line is part of the transmission infrastructure linking Nigeria’s power system to Niger, making its restoration important for electricity supply through this connection.
It further indicated that the TCN management has mobilised personnel and the necessary resources to the affected locations, with efforts already underway to rebuild the structures and restore the line.
The management, however, assured that its quickest intervention will facilitate the speedy rehabilitation of the collapsed towers and return the line to service in the shortest possible time.
The TCN also apologised to customers in Niamey for the destruction and inconvenience caused by the towers’ collapse.
