Ameachi: History Will Remember Him For Having Led A Campaign That Removed A Sitting President – Wike
In a video shared by Channels TV on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), criticised former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi while discussing his political record and the principles he had previously supported.
Wike made the remarks during an event organised by the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State, where political leaders and supporters gathered to unveil candidates and declare their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
During his address, the FCT minister referred to Amaechi’s role in the political campaign that led to the defeat of an incumbent president. He questioned whether Amaechi remained committed to the political principles he had publicly defended in the past, particularly regarding agreements between northern and southern political leaders.
According to Wike, “History will remember him for having led a campaign that removed a sitting president.” He made the statement while recalling Amaechi’s participation in the campaign against former President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2015 presidential election.
Wike argued that political leaders should remain consistent in their positions, especially when those positions concern agreements and understandings between different regions of the country. He questioned whether the same principles that guided previous political decisions were still being upheld amid the current political realignments.
He concluded by reiterating his support for Tinubu and urging political stakeholders in Rivers State to work together under the Rainbow Coalition, adding that the alliance had agreed to support the president and candidates endorsed for other elective positions ahead of the 2027 elections.
